Photographing children

Having photographs taken of your children is a way to pause life and savour childhood memories forever. Children grow up so quickly and unless one sets time aside to take photographs years can slip by with little or no beautiful images to treasure.

Photographs can be invaluable in your child's development. Photographs can play an important role in boosting your child's self-esteem and affirming that they are worthy and beautiful in your eyes. Seeing photographs of themselves doing an activity such as dancing or playing cricket, can build their confidence in their abilities too. Photographs are also a great developmental tool for your child. Children learn better with the help of images of things they have an emotional connection to. Use photos of items your child is familiar with in a photobook to teach them the alphabet, words or how to categorise things. Photographs also help children to make better associations and connect visual images to words - a great method for children to learn names and put faces to names. It also helps to keep memories vivid of loved ones whom have relocated or passed away.

Photos are visual triggers to memories and a great source of mental stimulation - make an album of photos for your child or put a few recent ones up in your child's room. You'll notice your child remembers events in much greater detail and process events better as well. Despite the availability and functionality of digital devices, physical photographs are irreplaceable allowing children to touch it, carry it and show it to others... sharing their story!

Photographing your child can be with a specific purpose in mind, such as one of our photo gifts, or just for fun! Babies are best photographed at birth, at 3 to 4 months when they are more alert and smiling and then again at around 7 to 8 months when they a sitting and have their first teeth. Not to be missed of course is a shoot when babies turn 1! Their personalities and mannerisms have developed, they are standing and crawling making for awesome shots with some babies even taking their first little steps! A great way to celebrate a first birthday is with a cake smash shoot!
