Birth Photography

Most children today pose for a picture within a few minutes of being born to mark the moment! There is no greater privilege than witnessing and documenting a new baby making his or her way into this world!

Birth photography enables parents to be fully present in the moments when their child is born by trusting a photographer to capture the birth of their child in a professional manner, without blurry photos or quick cell phone snap shots. A photographer in theatre also releases nurses, doctors, anaesthetists and midwives from ‘camera duty’ and allows them to focus on the birth at hand.

I follow a documentary style of photography when it comes to births. My presence at the birth of your child will be discreet and unobtrusive, capturing all the milestone moments of your child's very first day! This includes being wheeled to the theatre or labour ward, getting ready for birth, the actual birth and cutting of the umbilical cord, those precious first moments as you meet your baby, the APGAR test, baby getting dressed for the first time, latching for the first time, and if you wish, the introduction of your newborn to siblings and the rest of the family!

As photographer, I am at all times limited by the hospital’s policies and guidelines. Actual medical procedures are not photographed in detail. Images are taken with the available light in theatre and I refrain from using flash photography. No equipment such as tripods or backdrops are used or taken into theatre.

T&C's: It is the responsibility of the parents to obtain the necessary permission from both the hospital and medical personnel prior to arrival at the hospital. I will however guide you on the process to be followed as well as provide the necessary consent and authorisation forms.

Due to the private nature of these photoshoots I do not include a variety of birth photos in my portfolio, but you are most welcome to contact me for more information!
